Light Up! - Initial Release ๐
Version 0.1.0 - [Date]
I'm excited to share the first public release of Light Up!, my digital take on the classic 'Lights Out' puzzle game!
What's in This Release
This initial version includes three distinct game modes:
Quick Play Mode The classic experience - choose your grid size (3ร3, 4ร4, or 5ร5) and difficulty level, then solve the puzzle at your own pace. Perfect for when you want to carefully think through each move.
Blitz Mode A fast-paced 2-minute challenge where you solve as many progressively harder grids as possible. The difficulty ramps up from easy 3ร3 grids all the way to challenging 5ร5 puzzles. Every grid you solve adds 5 seconds to your timer - can you keep the streak going?
Zen Mode For those moments when you just want to relax and solve puzzles without pressure. No timer counting down, just you and an endless series of grids. Your total time accumulates as you play, letting you track how long you've been in the zone.
Key Features
- Procedurally generated puzzles - Every grid is uniquely scrambled, ensuring endless replayability
- Multiple difficulty levels - From 3 toggles (easier) up to 11 toggles (challenging) depending on grid size
- Dynamic transitions - Countdown sequences with randomized timing keep each playthrough feeling fresh
- Statistics tracking - See your moves, time, and grids solved for each mode
- Audio controls - Toggle music and sound effects independently
- Responsive design - Works on desktop and web
Development Notes
This project was built using Godot Engine 4.x and represents my exploration of clean architecture patterns in game development. I implemented a mode-based system where each game mode (Quick Play, Blitz, Zen) is its own class, making it easy to add new modes in the future without cluttering the codebase.
The puzzle generation uses a "reverse solve" approach - starting with all lights ON (the goal state), then making random unique moves to scramble the board. This ensures every puzzle is actually solvable!
What's Coming Next
I'm actively working on several enhancements:
- Voice narration for countdown sequences to add more energy to Blitz mode
- Background music and enhanced SFX to create better atmosphere for each mode
- Additional game modes - I have some ideas for daily challenges and timed perfect-run modes
- Visual polish - More particle effects, better feedback for grid completion
- Accessibility improvements - Better contrast options and alternative control schemes
Try It Out!
The game is playable in your browser right now, or you can download it for Windows/Linux/Mac. I'd love to hear your feedback, especially:
- Which mode is your favorite and why?
- What grid size and difficulty do you find most satisfying?
- Any bugs or issues you encounter?
- Feature suggestions!
Thanks for checking out Light Up! - I hope you enjoy solving these puzzles as much as I enjoyed creating them.
Optional additions:
- Screenshots or GIFs showing each mode
- Your Blitz mode high score as a challenge to players
- Links to your other projects or social media
- A brief "how I built this" technical section if you want to share knowledge
- Credits for any assets/tools you used
Would you like me to adjust the tone (more casual/professional), add technical details, or focus on any particular aspect?
